The SWMC National cleanup 2018 rolls into communities spanning Cayon to Conaree; Conaree to Kittstodart and Taylors to St. Peters. The exercise will run from October 12-15. General Manager of the SWMC Mr. Keithley Phillip, speaking on WINN FM’s Talking Trash on Tuesday, asked residents in these communities to work along with litter wardens who will be visiting the areas prior to Friday to ascertain where bins will be placed. “Litter wardens will be driving around to find the best areas to lodge the bins and if you can identify the different areas where they can lodge the bins, we will really welcome it,” Mr. Phillip said.
The SWMC General Manager explained that the National Clean Up Campaign, now in its fourth week, has been going well so far. He also noted that the bins are being filled up quickly in some places as soon as the bins are placed there. “Persons need to be on guard because these bins fill very, very quickly. In fact, on Saturday morning in the Village, just as we put down a bin, it was filled. And while we had another bin earmarked for another place, we had to bring that one to replace the one that was filled, very early on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, Mr. Phillip noted that the final three weeks of the eight week National Clean Up Campaign will be used to conduct mop activities. “This mop up, we will ensure that the areas that we did not touch, some of the areas that still have an overflow of garbage, we will visiting your area. Call us at 465-9507 at the Solid Waste Management Corporation and we will be more than happy to accept your call and to re-visit the area,” the SWMC General Manager explained.
The SWMC launched an eight weeks National Clean Up Campaign to facilitate the removal of bulky waste in the various communities, including old appliances. So far, the communities visited under this campaign over the last three weeks include Central Basseterre, Sandy Point, Ottley’s to Harris’, Newton Ground to Saddlers and St. Johnson’s Village to West Farm.
